Behind the Scenes at Helicon Watches: A Husband-and-Wife Team Dedicated to Craftsmanship

At Helicon Watches, we live by the old adage: “stick with what you’re good at.” As a husband-and-wife team—though I should say wife-and-husband—we’ve learned to play to our strengths. Together, Danielle and I bring decades of experience in the watch industry, each with a unique perspective that shapes the watches you see today.

Danielle: The Creative Visionary Behind Helicon

Danielle, with her keen eye for design, is the creative force behind Helicon. Drawing inspiration from the world around us, she has an extraordinary ability to translate experiences into beautiful, timeless pieces. Take, for example, the Lichen Master, with its rich green hue inspired by the fireplace at Babington House in Somerset, or the Iridium Master, which captures the spirit of 1950's guitars like the Gibson Les Paul through its nitrocellulose finish. Even our Granite Dial was shaped by the rugged beauty of Britain’s Jurassic Coast.

Danielle finds her true passion behind the scenes, sketching concepts on her sketchpad or refining CAD designs at her Mac. However, she is not one for public speaking or media appearances, preferring to let her designs speak for themselves.

Jonathan: The Voice of Helicon

On the other hand, I (Jonathan) am the face and voice behind much of Helicon’s content. After many years of creating content for respected watch brands such as Laco, Sinn, Zodiac, Squale, Chronoswiss, and Fortis, speaking about watches—whether in writing or on video—comes naturally to me. Recently, we’ve been thrilled by the reception of our new YouTube channel, where we’ve received over 35,000 views in just two weeks. A huge thank you to all our supporters for your comments and engagement!

A Rare Look Into Our Journey: 5th Wrist Podcast

We were especially honoured to be invited onto the 5th Wrist podcast, hosted by the knowledgeable and passionate Roman. Roman and I first crossed paths as Freemen of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, one of London’s most historic livery companies. Today, the company plays a pivotal role in promoting horological education in the UK, making Roman an ideal partner for a deep-dive into independent watchmaking.

It was during this conversation that Danielle, normally behind the scenes, felt comfortable enough to join in. For the first time, you can hear her talk about her design journey and the creative processes behind our watches. It is a rare opportunity to learn from her directly, so we encourage you to check it out on your favourite podcast platform.

A Heartfelt Thanks

We want to extend a big thank you to Roman and the team at 5th Wrist Radio for hosting us, and to all of you for your continued support. Helicon Watches is more than just a brand; it’s a labour of love, shaped by both of us in our own ways.

Stay tuned for more updates, and don’t hesitate to reach out—we always love hearing from fellow watch enthusiasts.
