People of Helicon - Sped Spedding - Guitars, Watches & the Importance of Timing
Anyone who knows us - or indeed has subscribed to the Helicon YouTube channel will know that music is a big part of life at Helicon.

We even have our own Spotify playlist, and music has found its way into our watches more than once.

Jonathan actually began his working life surrounded by guitars, working at Andy’s Guitars on Denmark Street and Chandlers in Kew  - two names that will immediately mean something to generations of professional guitarists and musicians.

That influence has never really disappeared.

Our long-sold-out Iridium Master 62, for example, featured a dial inspired by the wonderful colours of a classic 1950s Gibson Les Paul Sunburst. Watches and guitars might seem like very different objects, but to us there has always been a connection: design, craftsmanship, mechanical fascination and, above all, passion.

Which brings us rather nicely to Sped Spedding.

Sped is a guitarist, composer and YouTube host who has built a tremendous following through his videos exploring guitar technique, composition, musicianship and the instruments themselves.

And we are delighted to count him as part of the Helicon family.

Sped now wears his Graphene Grey Helicon Professional Chronograph every day.

That particular watch is now sold out too. You may be starting to notice a pattern here…

There is something rather appropriate about seeing a chronograph on the wrist of a musician.

Passion. Precision. Timing.

And, most importantly, something designed to be used.

Sped was kind enough to create these wonderful photographs for us, bringing together two of his everyday tools: a Gibson Les Paul and his Helicon Professional Chronograph.

We absolutely love them.

But this is also about something much bigger than a photograph of a watch.

One of the unexpected pleasures of creating Helicon has been discovering the extraordinary people who choose to wear our watches.

We are a small family business. Danielle and Jonathan design watches because we genuinely love doing it, and when somebody whose work we admire chooses to make one of those watches part of their everyday life, it still gives us an enormous amount of pleasure.

These are the relationships we cherish.

They encourage us to keep experimenting, keep designing and, hopefully, keep creating beautiful, practical watches that people genuinely want to wear.

So, Sped, thank you for the photographs, thank you for choosing a Helicon—and thank you for being part of our story.

And if you love guitars and music, do take some time to discover Sped Spedding's YouTube channel.

Just be warned: you may lose several hours!

Welcome to People of Helicon.

The watches are ours. The stories are yours.
