At Helicon Watches, Danielle and I take great pride in crafting timepieces that are not only beautiful to look at but are also purpose-built to fit seamlessly into your life. Many brands talk about lifestyle, but for us, it’s not just a marketing term—it’s a commitment.
Your Helicon watch should be a tool that supports your pursuits, whether that’s in the boardroom, on a mountain trail, or, in the case of our friend Ami, 60 meters underwater.
Meet Ami: Marine Biologist, Conservationist and Dive Master
We are delighted to introduce you to Ami, someone we’ve admired and known for years. Her life’s path is as unique as it is inspiring. Ami is a Marine Biologist and Dive Master, dedicating her career to protecting and studying marine life.
For the past 5 months, Ami has been on an extraordinary expedition in the Seychelles, leading a whale shark monitoring programme. She works tirelessly, often diving seven days a week, tracking and monitoring these gentle giants to better understand their behaviour, migration patterns, and role in marine ecosystems.
Ami relies on her Ultramarine Helicon Master dive watch every day for essential timekeeping during her work, and we’re proud to say it has performed faultlessly in the very environment it was designed for.
Ami’s Work: Protecting the Gentle Giants of the Ocean
Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) are the largest fish in the ocean, often referred to as “gentle giants.” They are as awe-inspiring as they are vulnerable.
Here are some fascinating facts about these majestic creatures:
- Size & Appearance: Whale sharks can reach up to 18 meters in length, weighing up to tonnes. Each shark sports a unique pattern of white spots, much like fingerprints.
- Habitat & Diet: Found in tropical and warm temperate waters worldwide, they are filter feeders that sustain themselves on plankton and tiny organisms.
- Behaviour & Conservation: These slow-swimming, solitary creatures are endangered, facing threats like overfishing and habitat destruction. However, ecotourism programs like those Ami supports are helping raise awareness and funding for their protection.
In 2025, Ami will continue her work with the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme, where she’ll track and monitor whale sharks, manage eco-tourism initiatives, and collaborate with local stakeholders to mitigate human impact on precious marine ecosystems and their inhabitants. This is critical, all-consuming work, and we are proud that her Helicon watch is a reliable tool in her conservation efforts.
A Watch Designed for Purpose
Ami’s Ultramarine Master watch is a testament to the durability and reliability we strive for at Helicon. Designed for divers and built to endure the rigours of life underwater, it has proven itself as a trusted companion during her daily dives.
The Helicon Master isn’t just a timepiece; it’s a tool built for those who push boundaries, explore new horizons, and dedicate themselves to meaningful work. Seeing our watches used in this way is why we do what we do—it’s about creating something that truly fits your purpose.
Looking Ahead
We’re excited to continue supporting Ami in her vital work and look forward to sharing more updates from her journey in 2025. Her dedication to marine conservation is a reminder of the incredible ways individuals can make a difference in protecting our fragile planet.
Ami’s story is one of passion, purpose, and perseverance, and we’re honoured that Helicon Watches can be a part of it.
